Do you remember that joke about the old guy who says he had to walk ‘uphill, both ways,’ in his day. That is how it feels sometimes.
Music, the business anyway, can be a slog. It can be really hard to keep up with basic things like email for shows, planning, and scheduling. And those things are always about something 3-6 months in the future. So often it doesn’t even feel real. Plus, when you’re a one man operation, it either gets done or it doesn’t- there’s no in-between. Not to mention sometimes sitting down and, you know, actually playing a bit.
After a pretty busy summer it’s been a quieter fall, musically speaking. But, sooner or later you roll up your sleeves, put your nose to the grindstone (how many working cliches could I put in one blog post?) and you get back to work.
The late fall/winter kicks off with a really fun thing- I’ll be in Clifton, TX on Oct. 29th at the Bosque Art Center as a finalist for the Texas Troubadour Songwriter Challenge. It should be a really great evening, so if you’re reading this and you’re somewhere between Dallas and Waco, come check it out. There are five finalist competing for Song of the Year, Peoples Choice, and The country artist T.G. Sheppard and songwriter Kelly Lang are the celebrity judges and will be performing after the contest that night.
I submitted four songs and a video, so something must have worked out! The video I submitted is below.
Then it’s pretty much winter around here. I’ll be at Very Nice Brewing in Nederland with the fellas on Dec. 10 and on the 11th I’m back at The Rock Inn in Estes Park to close out the schedule for the year.
In the new year we’ll be in Northern Colorado a bunch- the trio is at Black and Blues in Loveland on Jan. 20, and I’ll be doing a solo show at High Hops Brewing in early February. I’m pretty sure I’ll be adding more dates before the end of the year, and I’m starting to dream about some summer plans (like a few mini-tours maybe?) In the meantime, be well and stay warm.Follow me wherever you are!
Wow! how cool is that? A finalist? Seriously? Bam! Dang, I can’t wait to hear how it pans out. By the way, I had to read this edition just because it started out Uphill both ways. Yeah, I feel ya!
Best to you and the trio. Jo
