And another Sunday morning here in the mountains.
Have you been following the potential collapse of twitter? I sure have. As a long time twitter user, it’s been both fascinating and horrifying to watch. Clearly a train wreck sort of situation. I don’t know what will come of it. But it did motivate me to try Mastodon. Have you heard of that? It’s a social media platform built on a very different architecture and philosophy.
So far I like it. If you’ve never heard of it, it feels a bit like twitter to use, but there’s no algorithm, and there really isn’t a single entity in charge. It operates on distributed networks that can make their own rules. I’m here on Mastodon– if you’re already using it, please find me and tell me what I’m doing wrong!
I went to Texas at the end of October- I was a finalist in the Texas Troubadour Songwriter Challenge at the Bosque Art Center in Clifton, TX. I’ve never been big on making a competition out of this thing- I have a hard enough time managing my own internal struggles without externalizing the whole thing in some concrete way.
That said, I had a really great time, met some super cool people, and enjoyed the experience. The crowd was great, the other performers were all great, Janie Fricke was the celebrity judge- so I got to meet her, and it was generally a very cool experience. I didn’t actually win, but Tobi Lee, who did, was awesome, so no hard feelings on that at all. She really killed it. Big thanks to all the lovely people at the Bosque Art Center, and I’m hoping to find a way back down to Texas in the new year.
Winter has arrived in full here in Colorado. We had a week of single digit mornings rounded out with a nice 6-8 inches of snow for Friday morning. That was fun. If you have to drive to work. Which I did. It has warmed up over the weekend a bit, so now it’s pretty and cold. I’m looking forward to maybe getting the first ski day of the year this week.
After a bit of a quiet fall (other than Texas), I’m getting wound up to be out playing again. Me and the fellas will be rehearsing for a show at Very Nice Brewing in Nederland in mid-December, and I’ll do a solo evening at The Rock Inn as well. I’m filling up the calendar for January and February and beyond, so stay tuned and keep an eye on the Shows page, or your favorite social media (for the record, I’m @JayStottMusic on all platforms).
Did you read this far? You did? Thanks! I appreciate that. I’m trying to clean out the basement. I have a box of the Roots Music t-shirts that needs to go. If you’re on the email list I sent out a coupon code for the t-shirts and maybe something else. So get on that list. I kind of hate the whole Black Friday thing, but if you can help me clean out a box in the basement and get yourself a cool shirt at a good price that sounds like a win win to me. So get on the email list. And thanks.
Stay safe, stay warm, be well.
