My preferred celebration this time of year is the solstice. Which just happened. I like the sense of cycles, the movement of the earth, the change in seasons. On the shortest day of the year it makes sense to pause for just a moment and acknowledge the turn back to the light. Then it makes sense to get back in bed and pull the blankets over your head and go back to hibernating.
But apparently other folks celebrate other things. So whatever you celebrate, I hope it’s good for you, brings you joy and comfort in a crazy world, and reminds you to try to be better than you were the day before.
It is traditional at this time of year for those of us in the music making business to try to sell you stuff. While I’m all for you buying merch and music, especially mine, if you read this far you’ve probably already done that. So thank you very much. I really appreciate all the support. If you’re looking for something to do in support of your favorite artists, it’s actually really simple and cheap- follow on social media like, facebook, insta and twitter (I’m even on TikTok), make sure you’re following on your favorite streaming platform (spotify, tidal– my fave, apple music, and all the others). Then, if you really want to throw down, buy some merch.
And the new year keeps a coming. The next few weeks will be quiet on the front facing music scene for us. In the background I’m finishing up some recording and I’ll get some new stuff started so we can keep kicking new music out into the world. Look for a few new things in January, and then we’ll be out doing our thing in February with a vengeance.
Until then, be well, stay warm, enjoy the increasing light, and turn up the volume. -JS
